2018 NSW Premier’s History Awards winners announced

 The 2018 NSW Premier’s History Awards, offering $75,000 in prize money, were announced TONIGHT [31 August 2018] at the State Library of NSW as part of the official launch of NSW History Week.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian MP said: “These awards celebrate the outstanding work of Australian historians who have guided our understanding of the people, places, stories and events of the past. I congratulate this year’s winning historians, writers, creators and producers.”

The 2018 winners are:

Australian History Prize ($15,000)
The Battle Within: POWs in Postwar Australia by Christina Twomey (NewSouth Publishing)

General History Prize ($15,000)
On the Stump: Campaign Oratory and Democracy in the United States, Britain, and Australia by Sean Scalmer (Temple University Press)

NSW Community and Regional History Prize ($15,000)
Hidden in Plain View: The Aboriginal People of Coastal Sydney by Paul Irish (NewSouth Publishing)

Young People’s History Prize ($15,000)
The Fighting Stingrays by Simon Mitchell (Penguin Random House Australia)

Digital History Prize ($15,000)
We Don't Need a Map by Warwick Thornton and Brendan Fletcher
