On this day in 1822 the Agricultural Society of NSW (later the Royal Agricultural Society or RAS) was founded at a public meeting in the Red Cow Inn at Parramatta. The Society aimed to encourage profitable cultivation techniques and livestock production. The Society’s inaugural Show was held in the following year in Parramatta and the Society disbanded in 1836 and in 1857 the Cumberland Agricultural Society was founded.
