The Bail Amendment Act 2014 (NSW) passed Parliament and came into effect in January 2015. The Bail Act 2013 had only commenced in May 2014. The Bail Act itself was controversial, as were the changes to the original Act.

Here is an article critical of the changes by Hannah Quadrio and commentary by Don Weatherburn from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR).

The NSW Justice Department released this media release about the passing of the Bill. According to the Attorney General Brad Hazzard,

The NSW Government has acted swiftly to ensure those who pose an unacceptable risk to the community are refused bail.
