Digitised NSW Newspapers
Did you know the State Library of New South Wales (SLNSW) is digitising its collection of NSW Newspapers?
Newspapers contain some of the most valuable primary source material for historical research. The “name rich” value of newspapers makes them very popular with family historians who can search for ancestors, in birth, death and marriage notices, obituaries, probate notices, inquests, court reports, shipping columns, classifieds, local community events and much more. Newspapers also provide historical and social context to an ancestor’s life.
The newspapers are being digitised under a ten-year digitisation program. Funded by the NSW Government the Digital Excellence Program (DEP) will create and preserve digital material on a scale never before seen in Australia, providing unprecedented worldwide access to the collections of one of the nation’s leading libraries.
