‘Botany Bay, Sirius & Convoy…21 Janry 1788’ from William Bradley - Drawings from his First Fleet Journal `A Voyage to New South Wales’

First Fleet Journals

Do you have First Fleet ancestry? The State Library has the world’s largest collection of original First Fleet Journals, letters and drawings.

The Mitchell Library has nine of the eleven manuscript journals known to exist. These personal accounts of the voyage to NSW were made by naval officers, surgeons, soldiers and crew. The journals are of interest not only to “First Fleeters”. As eyewitness accounts of the European settlement of Australia they are historical documents of interest to all Australians.

Over the coming weeks we will feature each of the First Fleet Journals.
