On this day, 27th April 1896, Sir Henry Parkes died.

A journalist, statesman and Premier of NSW, he was a significant advocate of Federation and is often referred to as the Father of Federation.

The State Library of New South Wales holds an extensive collection of his papers, including correspondence, speeches and diaries.
