On 31st March 1921, the Australian Air Force was formed, renamed the Royal Australian Air Force in August 1921 after King George V approved the prefix “Royal”.

The State Library of New South Wales has a large collection of photographs depicting the history of the RAAF.

This photograph is from the Sam Hood Home and Away Collection and depicts three officers inspecting a Gypsy Moth plane in 1935.
