Cover of the Sydney Mail October 7 1914

The front pages of the Sydney Mail covering the WW1 period have now all been digitised on the State Library of NSW’s website.

The Sydney Mail was a weekly publication which also included photos of wounded, dead or missing soldiers, often photos were published months after the event, there may be a photo when they were reported missing and one when they were confirmed to have died.

The State Library NSW holds the Sydney Mail from 1860 to 1938. There is an index to photographs in the Sydney Mail produced by the Maryborough District Family History Society called the Sydney mail photograph index
