William Charles Wentworth died on 20 March 1872, at the age of 81.This very significant figure in Australian colonial history, was an explorer, author, barrister, statesman and landowner. In 1813, he accompanied William Lawson and Gregory Blaxland on an expedition, on which they found a route over the Blue Mountains.

The State Library of New South Wales holds many items relating to William Charles Wentworth, including his journal of the expedition over the Blue Mountains, which has been digitised.
