Paintbox of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite

Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, Australian children’s book illustrator, died on this day, 25th June 1960.

Best known for her depictions of fairy and fantasy themes, her first illustration was published in New Idea in 1904 when she was 15 years old. She and her sister, Annie Rattray Rentoul, collaborated on a series of publications, including Elves and Fairies. Their works were written by Annie and illustrated by Ida.
