On this day, 9th October 1940, John Lennon was born in Liverpool.

He was the founder member of the Beatles, and with Paul McCartney, they formed one of the most celebrated songwriting partnerships of the twentieth century.

This photograph, from the collections of the State Library of New South Wales, depicts John Lennon and Paul McCartney when the Beatles toured Australia in 1964.
