Famous Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar was born on this day in 1885. She is the author of ‘Core of my heart’, also known as My Country’, and also published several collections of verses and a series of novels.

For her contributions to Australian literature, Mackellar was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1968.
