On this day, 2nd September 1922, Australian poet and writer, Henry Lawson died.

Henry Lawson became the first person in NSW to be granted a State funeral as a distinguished citizen rather than a politician. Lawson was acclaimed for his writing, but he also suffered from depression and alcoholism, spending time in Darlinghurst Gaol between 1905 and 1909.
