[Captain James Cook - watercolour on ivory miniature in gold frame]

This miniature portrait is watercolour on ivory and is encased in an oval shaped gold frame with a glass front and red velvet backing.

The State Library of NSW has a significant collection of miniature artworks including portraits and scenes. They are usually five inches or less in size, and are commonly in egg-tempera on parchment, vellum, enamel, or ivory.
