Brunch with the State Librarian

Our State Librarian, Dr John Vallance was Simon Marnie’s special Brunch guest on ABC Weekends, Sunday 3 December 2017.

Simon ventured to Dr Vallance’s home in St Albans to chat about his home, life and career.

Dr Vallance also chose three of his favourite books ( as John said 'one is a poem, because poetry doesn’t get enough sunlight'), pieces of music and films to share with listeners.

They were:

Books

Teddy Bear Coalman, by Phoebe and Selby Worthington

The Crab with the Golden Claws, by Herge

The River Merchant’s Wife, poem by Tang Dynasty Chinese poet Li Bai, translated by Ezra Pound

Music

The Duke of Marlborough Fanfare, by Percy Grainger (if possible, a recording by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra)

Blackbird, Paul McCartney/Beatles

Durch Adam’s Fall ist ganz verdebt, J.S.Bach, arranged for two pianos by Gyorgy Kurtag.
