Changes to the Smoke-free Environment Act 2000 which come into effect on 6 July 2015 mean that smoking will be banned in the outdoor areas of hotels, clubs, restaurants and cafes. The ban extends to four metres within the areas.

The bans apply to any ignited smoking product including cigarettes, pipes and water-pipes.

The legislation is aimed at reducing the exposure to second-hand smoke. Fines apply of $300 for individuals and $5500 for businesses.
