Finding your name in the history books just got easier

Over 150 years of government records that include the names of thousands of ordinary Australians have been released by the State Library, in partnership with the National Library of Australia.

The State Library’s entire collection of historic NSW Government Gazettes are now digitised and available online for the first time.

The Gazettes are essential to anyone examining the history of NSW and Australia, and now, thanks to the Library’s NSW Government funded Digital Excellence Program, over a million pages are now online, available for everyone to use for free!

Each issue of the Gazette contains a wealth of information about a wide cross-section of Australia - from convicts to police, from business tycoons to bushrangers.

The NLA have written a fantastic blog about the amazing things that you can find in the Gazettes.

You can also find research guides to help you get the most out of the collection.
