One of the highlights of the year in Sydney is Good Food Month during October.
Good Food Month is the world’s largest food festival. To give you a taste of the food of years gone by, come and see the collection of cookery books held in the rare book and special collections at the State Library of New South Wales.
Examples of fine cuisines fit for royalty and everyday fare can be found in the libraries rare books collection, some dating from the 1600’s, for example find preserving recipes in The accomplish’d ladies delight in preserving, physick, beautifying, and cookery published in 1686 and how to prepare a feast for royalty in the Royal cookery; or, The complete court-cook published in 1710.
The beautiful images of Christmas pudding, jelly, fruits and roast meats are from the English and Australian cookery book published 150 years ago, in 1864.
