Last Friday the Library was honoured to host 140 HSC students and their teachers for a seminar day on the English Extension 2 course.
In choosing the English Extension 2 course, they have taken on the challenge of completing a major work in the form of a sustained composition. Their major work can take any of a number of forms including short story, critical response, poetry, a speech, a script, film, and performance poetry. It is a challenging course, but one which can be very rewarding for students as it offers creative freedom unmatched by any other course, in any other year of schooling.
The day consisted of a combination of lectures and small group workshops, and featured poet, critic and editor Dr Felicity Plunkett and the very accomplished teacher Catriona Arcamone, as well as ex-students whose success in the course has been showcased in the word eXpress Young Writers Showcase 15.
Learning Services presented the resources we have available for English Extension 2 students, including award winning Reflection Statements from students who have completed the course in previous years. Students were encouraged to come to the free eresources help sessions in January, run by I&A, and the HSC 2017 Tips for Parents session was also spruiked.
It was a pleasure to have such enthusiastic, mature, creative young people sharing the Library’s spaces, and we hope to spot our new friends around the Library for a long time to come.
