In 1919, after World War 1 ended, the Trustees of the Mitchell Library, Sydney advertised that they wished to acquire original manuscripts, photographs, realia and pictures made by Australian service personnel in all theatres of war. While some of the items were donated by service men and women, the Library also purchased material.
