Dorothy in a lime jacket1940

by Douglas Dundas

This portrait of Dorothy Thornhill is by her husband Douglas Dundas. Dorothy attended the National Art School at East Sydney Technical College from 1929–32 and was a student of her future husband. Dressed in a chartreuse green jacket with leg-o-mutton sleeves, Dorothy exudes a casual elegance.

She was an accomplished artist and also taught at the National Art School for almost 40 years. The pair married in 1941 and shared a studio in Edgecliff.
