Portrait of an Aboriginal man holding a spear c 1860

This portrait shows an unknown Aboriginal man wearing a blanket draped over one shoulder and holding a barbed spear. The location is unidentified but the artist, George Lacy, spent most of his working life in the NSW goldfields around Ophir and Sofala, lands occupied by Wiradjuri people. He also worked in the Victorian goldfields, in Djadjawurrung country, between 1855 and 1860.
