This special edition of the Sydney Morning Herald was published on 8 May 1945 — Victory in Europe or VE Day. As the headline suggests, Germany had surrendered to the Allied forces, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe. Although the war in the Pacific was not over, this event was still a cause for celebration in Australia. To mark the momentous occasion, staff working on the paper that day signed the front page of this copy.
