Contemporary artist Tom Carment was born in 1954 and studied at Julian Ashton’s School of Art in Sydney. Based in Sydney, he has painted since the 1970s and his portraits, landscapes and sketches have been selected for exhibition in the Archibald, Wynne, Sulman and Dobell Prizes at the Art Gallery of NSW. In 2014 he won the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize.

This self-portrait features soft edges and the title reflects the artist’s interest in the passing of seasons as he grows older. Carment is also a writer whose stories and essays have been published nationally.
