Australian Gypsies: Their Secret History

With Mandy Sayer

Award-winning memoirist and novelist Mandy Sayer comes to the Library to speak about her latest book, Australian Gypsies: Their Secret History. Weaving together a wideranging and exuberant history of gypsies in Australia, Mandy traces the roots of Romani culture, as well as the stories of the first gypsy people to arrive in the colony, including James Squire, the colony’s first brewer. Mandy’s new book gives a rounded history of gypsies in Australia while dispelling some longstanding myths along the way.
