The City Rewritten

With Vanessa Berry, Mark Mordue & Ross Gibson

How does literature reimagine the city of Sydney? Authors Ross Gibson, Mark Mordue and Vanessa Berry have redrafted the city’s identity in their recently released books. In the Criminal Re-Register, Ross Gibson assembles a version of 1950s Sydney through poetic revisions of the 1957 Criminal Register, an annual almanac of criminals and criminal activity. Mark Mordue charts the subcultural experiences of the post-punk inner-city of the 1980s in Darlinghurst Funeral Rites. And in Mirror Sydney Vanessa Berry observes the city for its idiosyncrasies, unconventional histories, and memories present and absent.
