Banks transcribe-a-thon

Past Event

Saturday, 3 December 2016 - 10am to 4pm

The race is on at the State Library to transcribe over 7,000 digitised pages from our historic Joseph Banks archive – are you up for the challenge?

Come along to the Library’s first ever transcribe-a-thon and become part of our dedicated community of transcribers as we work together to transcribe the entire archive in one day.

No matter what your skill level, whether you’re a Banks enthusiast or just looking to learn something new – everyone is welcome to join in. For first timers, our friendly Library staff will be on hand to assist you.

You’ll also get the chance to get up close and personal with the real thing – original material from the Banks archive will be on display, including Banks’ Endeavour journal.

The Library’s Banks expert Louise Anemaat will give four brief talks about different aspects of the collection, including an introduction to 18th-century handwriting and deciphering Banks' own handwriting, a focus on Banks ‘the man’, and how the Library came to hold this extraordinary collection of original correspondence

Before you arrive

All volunteer transcribers are encouraged to register to transcribe prior to arriving on the day here:
