Curator Talk: The life of Henry Beaufoy Merlin

With Geoff Barker

In the 10 years preceding his death in 1873, Henry Beaufoy Merlin transformed himself from a theatrical showman into one of Australia's most important photographers.  Right up until his unexpected death in September 1873, Merlin’s photographic business was clearly influenced by his experience as a marionette theatre designer, illusionist and showman. As a result, his company, The American and Australasian Photographic Company, was able to capture the towns and cities of New South Wales, and Victoria, on a scale never seen before.

Join our curator, Geoff Barker, for a lunchtime talk on Merlin’s fascinating life.
