Friends of the Library event.
This ornate, silver candelabrum was given to Sir Francis Forbes, the first Chief Justice of NSW, in 1839. Forbes was a legal pioneer who had a significant impact on the fledgling colony's judicial system. That the candelabrum was paid for by public subscription, not government revenue, is a sign of how highly he was regarded.
Senior Curator, Alison Wishart will talk about Forbes, his candelabrum, and how it came to be in the Library's collection. There will also be an opportunity to get 'up close and personal' with this splendid piece.
Includes refreshments. Booking Essential.
