Family Fun - Celebrate NAIDOC Week

This Family Fun Day we’re celebrating the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with two very special guests – illustrator and artist Dub Leffler and children’s author Jasmin Herro.

Throughout the day catch author talks and illustration workshops, plus craft, puzzles, fun activities and Library tours that the whole family can enjoy.

Be inspired by the works of Dub and Jasmin by making your very own crocodile egg – with a surprise baby crocodile inside!

Drop-in for some fun kids crafts or take a tour where our team will show you all the cool things for kids in and around the Library.

Workshop with Dub Leffler 
Suitable for children aged 5 - 11

Get creative with Dub - Bigambul man and Australia’s premier Illustrator of Indigenous children’s literature, Dub has written two books for children and illustrated over 20 publications. He has taught illustration both here in Australia and internationally & has collaborated with the likes of Shaun Tan, Sally Morgan and Banksy. His first book, the award winning Once There Was a Boy, has garnered critical acclaim worldwide and his latest illustrated book, Sorry Day, written by Coral Vass has just been released.

Workshop with Jasmin Herro 
Suitable for children aged 5 - 11

Be treated to an exclusive preview of Jasmin’s upcoming children’s book, Teter Mek & the Stolen Crocodile Eggs, the sequel to her debut children’s book Teter Mek and the Mystery of Pearl Shell Island, followed by an art & craft workshop.

Jasmin is a multi-award winning Indigenous businesswoman. When asked by her daughter about their Torres Strait Islander heritage, she realised that she knew very little about her own culture. Teter Mek’s story mirrors Jasmin’s journey of discovering her cultural identity.
