John Gould: the bird man

Past Event

Thursday, 21 June 2018 - 10:30am to 12:30pm

John Gould was a British ornithologist and artist. It is estimated that over half a million individual hand-coloured plates of birds and animals were produced under the Gould name. This extraordinary output was the result of Gould's drive and business acumen as well as his ability to develop a strong international group of specimen collectors, artists and administrative agents. Hear about Gould's life and work and see some of his publications from the Library's rare book collection.
