Medicinal herbs were valued by the ancient Greeks and are still used today. The 16th and 17th centuries produced many herbals - illustrated printed books that were the precursor to the modern botanical and pharmaceutical textbooks. Flower books came to prominence in the 18th and 19th centuries with significant works by Redoute, Bauer, Hooker, Sowerby, Sweet and Thornton. Learn about and view some of the Library's original and facsimile editions of these beautifully illustrated books.
