Friends 3-part Lecture Series

After the Great Dividing Range was crossed in November 1813, the puzzle of westward flowing rivers presented itself.  Did they terminate in a great inland sea, or was there an outlet on the south coast?  Some even suggested that the rivers would ultimately emerge into the Indian Ocean on the north-west coast or into the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Join the Library's Emeritus Curator, Paul Brunton OAM, as he takes us on a journey following three intrepid explorers and fascinating individuals who, under trying conditions, tried to solve this riddle: John Oxley, Charles Sturt and Thomas Livingston Mitchell.
