Indigenous Activism and Social Media Spaces

with Evelyn Araluen Corr

Aboriginal peoples have used the written word as a mode of resistance, testimony and expression since Bennelong's letter to Lord Sydney in 1796. In the 21st century Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook provide new spaces for Indigenous peoples to voice their perspectives and share cultural knowledge. This talk engages with the development of these communities.

Evelyn Araluen Corr is a Bundjalung PhD candidate at the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on methodologies for interpreting Aboriginal literature and scholarship both locally and in the contextof global Indigenous networks of survival and resistance.
