Madame Weigel: The Woman who Clothed the Australian Colonies

With Veronica Lampkin

Madame Weigel and Miles Franklin?

Miles Franklin wrote of her mother’s devotion to Madame Weigel’s patterns and fashion journal, using them to sew for herself, her family and the maid. After discussing this little-known link between these two women, this talk will provide a unique view of nine decades of fashion and everyday clothing in Australasia.

Dr Veronica Lampkin studied Madame Weigel’s pattern series for her doctorate and published a biography, Madame Weigel: The Woman who Clothed the Australasian Colonies.
