The Summit of Her Ambition: The Spirited Life of Marie Byles
With Anne Mcleod
Marie Byles was at the forefront of social change as the first female solicitor of NSW.
Told she could only work as a law clerk, she established a successful legal practice and fought for women’s equal rights in law.
A passionate conservationist, Marie devoted her legal skills to reserve the most precious wilderness areas for national parks.
An explorer-mountaineer, she travelled the world in search of virgin peaks and mapped previously unexplored areas. Marie was influenced by Gandhi and learnt mindfulness meditation in Burma, writing books that influenced a generation in the 1960s.
Anne McLeod worked for many years in the film industry on feature films, television drama series and as a researcher on documentaries. In 2004 she gained a degree in Adult Education and worked for a community organisation as Training Coordinator and facilitator of mediation workshops. Anne was inspired to become a writer after discovering Marie Byles and is a freelance journalist of magazine articles of biographical and environmental subjects.
