John B Fairfax Learning Centre

GROUND FLOOR, Mitchell Building
Next to the Family Space
room with window, bookshelves and stools

A space dedicated to inspiring curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.

The John B Fairfax Learning Centre is a hands-on, digitally rich learning environment for K–12 students, teachers and families.

On the ground floor of the newly transformed Mitchell Building, the centre has been designed for children and young people.

Entry is through a hidden door and down a magical four-metre tunnel filled with historic artefacts and manuscripts as well as interactive technology highlighting library collections. At the end of the tunnel you emerge into a light filled contemporary space illuminated by two enormous arched windows, exposed for the first time since the 1960’s.

This beautiful learning environment offers even greater opportunities for schools and communities to experience, respond to and create with the Library’s collection.
