The IFLA World Library and Information Congress is the international flagship professional event for the library and information service sector. In 2015, the 81st IFLA General Conference and Assembly was held in Cape Town, South Africa.

As part of the Congress, Kirsten Thorpe and Monica Galassi presented a paper titled Diversity, Recognition, Respect: Embedding Indigenous Services at the State Library of New South Wales, Australia.

The Congress provided an opportunity for the Library to showcase the development of Indigenous Services to an international audience. Sharing information with colleagues from across the world, and in particular from the African continent, also gave space for making connections and exchanging information on best practice and developments in the field. The congress also held a meeting of the IFLA Indigenous Matters Special Interest Group.
