Australia as a Nation moves from colonial Australia to the development of Australia as a nation. Students explore the factors leading to Federation and experiences of democracy and citizenship, and develop an understanding of the models that influenced the development of Australia’s system of government. Students learn about migration to Australia and how migrants have contributed to Australia’s economic and social development.
In Stage 3, The Australian Colonies provides a study of colonial Australia in the 1800s. Students look at the founding of British colonies and the development of a colony. They learn about what life was like for different groups in the colonial period.
In Stage 2, Community and Remembrance provides a study of identity and diversity in both a local and broader context. Students explore the historical features and diversity of their community, and examine significant symbols, emblems, celebrations and commemorations.
First Contacts introduces world history and the movements of peoples. Beginning with the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Peoples, students examine European exploration and colonisation in Australia and the world to the early 1800s.
