A series of 20 beautiful black and white streets portraits from his travels will go on public display for the first time when Beauty in difference: the street photography of Jon Lewis opens at the State Library of NSW, as part of the Library’s dynamic program of events for Multicultural March.
Jon Lewis, a veteran self-taught photographer of more than 40 years, connects with perfect strangers when he takes their photographs, but the images are anonymous as he doesn’t record their names or any personal details.
Lewis acknowledges that the audience has to work harder to unravel his images: “The less we know of the image by title, interview or small talk, the more the photograph has to do its job.”
Beauty in difference: the street photography of Jon Lewis is a free display at the State Library of NSW until 4 June 2017.
