Changes to strata laws in NSW take effect on 30 November 2016.

The Strata Schemes Management Regulation 2016 includes a set of model by-laws which provide ‘sample rules’ to guide the owners corporation in setting their own by-laws. Your strata rules affect what you can do in your property. Examples include if you can keep pets and where you can smoke (remember: you need your landlord’s permission on these issues). Higher fines now apply for breaching strata rules. If you don’t have a copy of the by-laws, ask your landlord or property manager for a copy.
