Max Dupain's iconic Sunbaker turns 80! - what's new under the sun?

In 1937 Australian photographer Max Dupain captured what is arguably Australia’s most well‐known photograph – the Sunbaker.

Eighty  years on, the Australian Centre for Photography has commissioned 15 talented contemporary artists to reimagine this iconic black and white image and explore what it means to be Australian today.

This new work will be showcased in the large scale exhibition Under the sun: Reimagining Max Dupain's Sunbaker, opening at the State Library of NSW on Saturday 18 February 2017.

The 15 featured artists reflect Australia’s multicultural, multi‐ethnic and multi‐faith nature. They are: Peta Clancy, Christopher Day, Destiny Deacon, Michaela Gleave, Nasim Nasr, Sara Oscar, Julie Rrap, Khaled Sabsabi, Yhonnie Scarce, Christian Thompson, Angela Tiatia, Kawita Vatanajyankur, Daniel Von Sturmer, Justene Williams and William Yang.
