On 14 December, our State Librarian, Dr John Vallance solemnly accepted a copy of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse’s ‘Message to Australia’ – on behalf of Dr Marie-Louise Ayres, Director-General of the National Library of Australia who had been prevented at the last minute from attending the Commission’s final hearing. Dr Vallance read a speech prepared by Dr Ayres. “Receiving this book in trust is both a great honour and a great responsibility”, he said afterwards.
‘Message to Australia’ gave those who bravely told their story to the Royal Commission an opportunity to share a message with the Australian community about their experience.
The State Library’s copy of the book has been placed in the Special Collections area of the Mitchell Library Reading Room and is available for all readers to access.
Please note: readers do not require a Library card to view this book.
