Transforming the State Library of NSW – Have Your Say

Our vision is to transform the State Library of NSW into a global cultural destination for all.

We want to ensure all our readers, researchers, students and visitors — local and international — have the opportunity to access and enjoy this much-loved Sydney landmark and the extraordinary riches within it.

Guided by our master plan, we have embarked on a program of major works that will deliver new world class galleries to the public.

We are now preparing a planning proposal to seek approval for the second stage of works. These works include significant upgrades along Shakespeare Place to make the Library’s Mitchell building accessible for all for the first time through the introduction of new external lift and ramp facilities. It also includes activating the rooftop with a restaurant/ function space.

The rooftop restaurant/function space is one of the projects being considered as part of the NSW Government’s plans to revitalise Macquarie Street.

To ensure that the best outcomes are achieved, we invite you to learn more about what is proposed, ask questions and provide feedback at our community information session.
