Located on Lower Ground 1 in the Macquarie Street building, The Verandah is designed to be a casual area where you can:

  • sit back and relax
  • read or study quietly
  • use a Library computer
  • use the free wi-fi on your own device.

What you can bring into The Verandah

You'll need to be aware of what you can and can’t bring into this area.

You can bring:

  • bags
  • covered drinks
  • books, magazines and other material
  • cold finger food (e.g. fruit, muesli bars, snacks)

You can’t bring:

  • hot or messy food 
  • food with strong odours.

History

The Verandah opened in September 2011 as part of the refurbishment of the State Reference Library Reading Room (now known as the Marie Bashir Reading Room). 

It was designed as an open, informal space in response to the changing needs of Library visitors.
