Expert heritage consultants will be involved at all stages of our master plan, from planning to construction. The Heritage Council of NSW will also review and approve the State Library’s designs to ensure that the heritage fabric of the building is respected.
The building’s heritage features will be preserved and restored.
The State Library’s Mitchell building has been a prominent Sydney icon since 1910. It is vital that it be open and accessible to all visitors, including those with restricted mobility.
The Mitchell Library Reading Room, Gallery Room and Friends Room were restored in 2014, attracting positive feedback and increased visitation.
