My Good Comrade of the Rugby League
7 November 2008
Andy Carr presents My Good Comrade of the Rugby League: Discovering the Writings of Harry Sunderland in the State Library of New South Wales.
Among the treasures of the Davis Sporting Collection (Mitchell Library) are 30 letters from controversial rugby league administrator Harry Sunderland (1889-1964). These letters, sent to J.C. Davis of iconic Sydney sports newspaper The Referee between the two world wars, provide new insights into Sunderland's life and work. Andy Carr scratches the surface to reveal a misunderstood Australian driven by a passion to take rugby league football to the world.
Presented at the Centenary of Rugby League in Australia Conference, 7 November 2008 at the Powerhouse Museum Sydney.
