You can find our family history area on Lower Ground 2 of the State Reference Library. Ask one of our family history librarians to help you get started with your research.
Programs

Family history groups can book into our Researching your family history program. This free program includes:

introduction to our catalogues

introduction to our eresources

advice on research strategies

an orientation tour.
We can tailor the program to cover a specific topic for you. The program usually lasts around 90 minutes.
We also offer workshops and talks on different aspects of family history. Check the Events page for details.
Research guides
Use our research guides to discover relevant resources for your topic. If your research is NSW based, you will find the guides particularly useful.
Getting started guides
Our getting started guides give you a basic introduction to resources.

If you are not in the Library, you can search past newspapers online and other eresources using your Library card. If you don't have a card you can sign up online or by visiting us.
You will need to visit the Library to use the full range of our eresources, including Ancestry Library Edition and Findmypast. Go to our eresources collection and select Family history.
