Professional development and events

Public Library Services staff coordinate a Professional Development program for New South Wales public library staff.

The program includes management and leadership courses; readers' advisory training; seminars on marketing, building, reference and services for Higher School Certificate students; and the Making Connections program.

Public Library Learning and Development Framework

The Public Libraries Consultative Committee endorsed a Public Library Learning and Development Framework (PDF 474Kb) at their meeting of 17 March 2014.  The Learning and Development Framework identifies three outcome areas for the NSW Public Library network:

  1. Skills and knowledge development across a broad range topics related to the library and information sector
  2. Sharing of information and experiences
  3. Inspiration and ideas generation

The Framework identifies three mechanisms to achieve the above learning and development outcomes: learning and development programs, learning communities and networks and policies and guidelines.
