Reserving an item

You can set aside or reserve items for up to seven days. To put an item on ‘set aside’, take it to the Request Desk in the State Reference Library or Mitchell Library. The staff will ask you to fill in a set aside slip for the item, giving its location number, your surname and first initial, your readers card number and the day’s date.

If you do not have a readers card, you need to register for one at the Information and Request Desks in the State Reference Library or Mitchell Library. You will need to give your name, address, telephone number and email address (if you have one), and provide at least one form of identification, such a driver’s licence, passport, student card with address, pension card, health benefits card, or recent utilities bill.

To access set aside items, ask for them at the Request Desk.

You can request items from stack storage before you visit the Library. They will be available from the Request Desk 24 hours after you lodge your request.

To request that an item be set aside for you, follow these steps:

Items in the catalogue that have a status message saying ‘ask at desk’ may be unavailable
